It sounds like Wellington will be pretty stacked up with four digit fruit. It might take 1000 pounds to get into the top 10.
Thanks Ryan. Chris & I have been running neck-to-neck all season. It's been fun having him here, growing in our back yard. He beat us in Port Elgin, but we took him at Woodbridge. Now Wellington will be the rubber match for Cameron Cup. LOL. His last one is @ 100# heavier than ours, so it looks like he might have us beat, but we'll see come weigh off day.
Thanks also for using the diary section. Your season was quite busy with the new baby & trying to grow a pumpkin, but it sounds like you managed just fine in the end. We're looking forward to seeing you & your family (pumpkin included) at Wellington. Anyway, we hope more of our members will use this great new feature in 2018.
A tough growing season is the biggest reason for the decline in entries at some weigh offs. Many growers struggled early with wet, cool weather, while others suffered from the many major storms that hit Ontario this year. We were just happy to get a pumpkin to a scale this year after a couple years of disappointment.
Anyway, I expect to see many more at Wellington next week. See you Sat morning.
Cheers,
Jane & Phil
Yes those were a large top 3. I really enjoyed Woodbridge last year and there must have been 15 pumpkins. Tough growing year is felt from patch to weighoffs.
congratulations to you and Jane, Chris and Todd. Pretty cool with your fruit measuring the exact same OTT as Chris' fruit. whats the chance?
Also thanks to yourselves and Chris for doing a diary this year. Its great to see other growers gardens and fruit throughout the year. I appreciate you all taking the time.
That's right Ryan, only 5 pumpkins. A 200#+ pumpkin in 5th place won $500. The top 3 pumpkins were a decent size though & everyone had a good time. Food was great, thanks to Frank Catapano. Thanks to Bryan Mailey, Russ Landry & Dave McCallum for putting on a good show.
Jane & Phil
Was there really only 5 pumpkins in Woodbridge or was that a typo on the Gpc website?
