As promised we have a new enhanced prize list for Wellington for 2021. We are basically doubling the prize money for AGP and squash! This has been made possible with your generous donations of seeds for both our annual seed sale and winter auction. We are also pleased to announce a new Platinum sponsor, Tri County Inspections. With their cooperation we have added a Bonus of $5000 for a new Canadian Record over 2000 lbs weighed at Wellington!. If the prize is not claimed in 2021, it will remain for 2022. October 16th is just around the corner. We are asking for as much preregistration as possible. This years registration fee is $30. There is a link on the site to down load a form that can be completed and emailed back to us. Prepayment of registration fees can be made by e-transfer or PayPal at j.vincent@xplornet.ca The new prize list can be viewed on our new web site: PEC PUMPKINFEST Please take the time to view Tri County inspections site: Home Inspection | Ontario | Tri County Inspection We look forward to seeing everyone on October 16th!

The 25th anniversary of the Prince Edward County Pumpkinfest will be held this year in Wellington, ON., on October 16th, 2021. Because of the evolving situation with Covid-19, we will be following a similar protocol to last year. We are asking for preregistrations and advance payment of the entry fees to reduce personal contact for the staff. Unfortunately, the festival will be limed to the weigh-off similar to last year and no parade..:( On a positive note, we will be enhancing the prize package this year, including a significat Prize if we set a Canadian Record over 2000 lbs! stay tuned for more information!

This season has been a challenge for many reasons and as such the organizers of PEC Pumpkinfest in Wellington have been reluctant to release our final plans, pending charging government regulations. As of now, the public festival as well as the parade etc. are cancelled. The Prince Edward County Pumpkin Growers, will be hosting a private (GPC sanctioned) weigh off on October 17th, same Saturday as in the past. We have to review the prize structure as of yet, but it will be similar to past years. Unfortunately, because of the new restrictions of 25 people maximum at a public event, we will be weighing by appointment and streaming the entire weigh off over the internet. We will be asking at all fruit be preregistered and we will schedule a time for your fruit to be weighed. We will have the area cordoned off and allow one or two trucks in the weigh off area at a given time. If you are waiting for your weigh off slot, you will be asked to remain in your vehicle. Once you enter the weigh off area, you will be unloaded, weighed/ measured and reloaded, at which time you will need to exit the weigh off and allow the next appointment. At the end of the event we will hold a virtual awards presentation, and prize money cheques will be mailed out. As the Covid-19 situation is ever evolving, please assume that some of this format may change and check back often for updates. We will publish a preregistration form here which can be printed off, scanned and returned, or if you don't have that ability, just email me the info and we will attempt to organize this mess! I will also be sending an email with the form to all prior participants. I appreciate this is not an ideal situation and your patients and co-operation will be much appreciated.

Ive had a few inquires regarding local accommodations for the spring seminar. There are lots of local hotels, however Belleville hotels have become increasingly expensive since the casino went in. If you are coming from the East, The Hampton Inn is very nice in Napanee. Coming from the West, the Ramada in Trenton is pretty good. Both of these are more reasonably priced than the Belleville hotels. If anyone needs more information, feel free to contact me. On another note, there has been some interest in getting together for some food and fellowship the night before. If you are coming in Friday night and would like to join in, let me know and i will keep you in the loop! j.vincent@xplornet.ca

After a few years sabbatical, i will be growing a couple pumpkins in 2020. I plan to keep things as simple as possible with just the two The seeds have not been finalized . The short list includes the 2005 Haist, 1911 Urena, 2114 Wallace, 1871 Bryson and the 1884 Crews. I started the prep last fall on two 850 ft2 planting sites. Unfortunately I didn't get everything i had planned on completed in the fall. Hopefully, i will be able to get in there early. I will be building much larger clotches than in the past. Likely close to 200ft2 each. I'm planning on in ground as well as above ground heat.
