The SoilMatrix Newsletter (October 31, 2019) 1. Our first article is actually two YouTube videos available on the B4SS website. This is the “Biochar four Sustainable Soils” website - a great new resource set up by the United Nations as an endorsement of the use of biochar for both soil regeneration and mitigating climate change, which is what AirTerra is all about. You get two videos for the price of one this time… 1. The first video is a great description of how and why biochar works as a soil enhancer. Also, there are some great tips on the best ways to use biochar. Click Here… 2. The second video is actually just for fun. It was produced by a number of artists who are working with this United Nations project to promote improved organic agricultural method, biochar being one of these methods. Click Here… 2. Our second feature article was published by a No-Till Farming magazine and it sings the praises of doing everything possible to ensure the health of roots in soils. Farmers are also encouraged to maintain healthy plants in the soil on a continuous basis by seeding cover crops between cash crops. This protects the soil and builds soil health as well as adding organic nutrients for use by the cash crops. 1. Click Here… 3. Now, this link may be more than you are bargaining for… it is an hour long educational webinar put on by a farming educational organization out of Illinois. The presenter is Dr. Kris Nichols and you will learn how dynamic and healthy soils can be when beneficial bacteria and fungi work together to transport nutrients and moisture to plants. 1. Click Here… 4. Our last item is a report about an Australian farmer who is making use of biochar fed to cattle along with introducing dung beetles to improve his land. This one is best read to be believed… but it really makes sense! 1. Click Here… 2. Enjoy! 3. Your Soil Geek Friend, 4. Rob Lavoie 5. http://www.airterra.ca 6. We started no-tilling in 1983 and are still on that path today. For years, we’ve incorporated cover crops and now we’re using multi-species cover crops to protect the soil. WEBINAR: Soil Biology Builds Resilience and Enhances Soil Quality - YouTube m.youtube.com 📷 Dung beetles, poo and charcoal help this farmer tackle effects of climate change ABC Rural 1. An innovative West Australian farmer uses charcoal and exotic dung beetles to boost soil fertility and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from his cattle. Your Soil Geek friend, Rob Lavoie, P. Eng., B.
